Mickey C

Welcome to my website!
As you know by now my name is Mickey C. But I wasn’t born with an awesome name like that. :-) My real name is Michiel Clippeleyr. Only my friends call me Mickey C. I was born on the fifth of august 1987 in Antwerp (Belgium).
I grew up in a small town near Antwerp. While I was growing up I always found all sort of games interesting. From chess over dice to cardgames like wiezen (a popular game in Belgium especially played bij older people :-) ). When I was about 14 years old my older brother Jasper introduced me to roleplaying games. This apart from playing similar games on the computer helped to develop my strategic insight in games.
It was only later that I got introduced to poker. This happened when my (very) good friend Thomas Vanbrabant invited me to a homegame. There is where I got my first introduction to No Limit Texas Hold’em, the cadillac of poker. Althoug I was familiar with the hand rankings (from playing games like yahtzee and jannen, a game which is quiet similar to yahtzee), I had never played Hold’em before. By the end of the night I went home a winner. That’s when I got hooked!
Almost around the same time the local youth club Togenblik started to organize their own Togenblik Poker Championships (TPC). This is a Freeroll No Limit Hold’em freezout tournament that is organized once every four months. I participated for the first time in the second edition. I finished eight. Not that bad of a result and this drove me on to learn more about the game. I started reading some books primiraly on No Limit Hold’em and slowly started to improve my game. Now five editions of TPC have come and gone and I made the final table in all of my four entrees. But I never won one, so that is high on my to do list :-)! After some experience in No Limit Hold’em, playing with friends, playing online I started to get interested in other forms of poker. Especially Omaha got my attention. Now my friends and I reguarly play different forms of poker.
My dream is to one day win a WSOP-bracelet and put my name up their with some of the best players in the world!
You can find a list of my achievements right here.

Thomas Vanbrabant

Hey,
My name is Thomas Vanbrabant. I’m proud to say that I’m one of the friends of Mickey, a real great guy! I was born on the fifth of July in 1986, one year and one month befor Mickey. After living about ten years in Antwerp, my family moved to Beveren. Going to high school in this town, I met Mickey in 2004.
Early 2007, I learned to play hold’em from Stijn Heyens, a good friend of Mickey and me. I was intrigued by the game and started playing it a lot, reading about it and watching clips on the internet. At that time Jamie Gold was the reigning WSOP Main Event champion and after watching this tournament on youtube, I fell in love with tournament poker. I was really impressed by one player in particular: Allen Cunningham. He still tops my list of favorite and in my opinion best poker players out there. I started watching all the shows on the internet: WSOP, High Stakes Poker, Poker After Dark,… I was sold!
A couple of months later, we organized with a team of poker players the first TPC tournament. It was real fun and we tried to copy the WSOP Main Event. This freeroll tournament has grown through the years and we are having at least fifty players every latest edition. Late in 2007, I gave Mickey the ESPN episodes of the 2007 Main Event. After he saw these, he was sold and idolized Scotty Nguyen. I really enjoyed talking poker with him and we played a lot together at the University. The group of friends whom we played changed a little and these days we ar with about ten people who play on a regular base all variants of the game. We play cash games and organize our own sit & go-tournaments.
I started by playin hold’em, but these days I find at least the same amount of pleasure in the other variants. I really like playing games as Stud and 2-7-draw, but my favorite game is by far pot limit omaha. If the choice is mine, I would play this every time, at least in a mix with some other games. While I still chose tournaments above cash games, I’ve learned to play both of them. I still learn almost every time I play and will take every opportunity to play a game against whoever wants. Poker is really something I love and love to talk and write about. That’s why I’m very happy that when Mickey created this website late 2008, he asked me to post every week an article about something that’s on my mind on his website. Thanks for this buddy, good work in making the rest of the site happen!
